The challenge
Deliver Australia's first 3D printed public amenities block for Dubbo Regional Council, durable civic infrastructure built for the harsh Central West climate, not a display piece.
The solution
Our mobile gantry printer, Opus One, formed the 18.5 by 8 metre building's internal and external walls with almost zero waste, developed with UNSW. An oxide colour was mixed straight into the material, so the walls never need painting.
Printing & technology
The walls went up over 7 days of print time, using 25 tonnes of ContourCrete at around 40% recycled content, tested to 45 MPa.
Delivery & results
Dubbo was the first council in the country to build this way. Durable, low maintenance civic infrastructure, designed for a service life beyond 100 years, that doubles as a public demonstration of what printing can do.
