The challenge
Build Australia's first full scale 3D printed home on a standard suburban block in Woolooware, NSW, and prove printed concrete could deliver a real, occupied, energy-rated duplex, not a demonstration piece.
The solution
We printed the entire ground floor's structural walls on our own OPUS gantry, on site, over 28 days of print time. Versiclad's lightweight modular panels then formed the second storey, completed in just over six days.
Printing & technology
1310 square metres of printed wall used around 140 tonnes of ContourCrete, laid down at about 1.3 tonnes an hour and tested to 56 MPa at 28 days.
Delivery & results
Genesis reached a 7.9 star energy rating, comfortably ahead of the 7 star benchmark, and was featured nationally on 60 Minutes, going on to win the National Award for Excellence in Concrete. Its flowing printed walls and sculptural feature walls show what free-form construction can do for everyday housing.
