At the rear of a Sydney suburban home, Contour3D was offered to print a modern Australian granny flat as part of a larger home renovation. The client’s vision was to create a modern, homely, yet well executed guest house for family members, occasional man cave and an Airbnb rental in the down time.

After pouring the slab and ordering a kit-home, the client was introduced to Contour3D’s technology and modern building principles through our structural engineer. The client swiftly changed their plans from a traditional kit-home build to a 3D printed structure on the existing concrete slab.

The new 50m2 granny flat, designed by award-winning architect Julian Brenchley, from Group Architects, offered curved walls and detailed design features only feasible with 3D printing. As early adopters they are excited by the thought of having one of the first 3D printed structures in Australia.

The project is currently being printed with the fit out due to be ready by March 2023. The build will use 18 tons of Contour3D’s own special 3D printable concrete blend – Contourcrete™ with ~15 hours of actual print time.
