AUSTRALIA'S FIRST FULL-SCALE 3D PRINTED HOMES

WELCOME TO GENESIS

In partnership with Versiclad, are taking a groundbreaking step with Australia’s first full-scale 3D-printed duplex.

THE FUTURE OF HOUSING

AS SEEN ON 60 MINUTES

60 minutes | Contour3D

This cutting-edge duplex, Genesis, showcases a new era in technology and design by combining 3D concrete printing by Contour3D for the ground floor and lightweight modular construction by Versiclad for the first floor. Together our technologies combine to create a powerhouse for faster build times, less construction waste, and higher thermal energy ratings, changing how we think about future buildings.

Using Contour3D’s OPUS printer, which is designed and manufactured in Australia by C3D, the duplex’s ground floor internal and external walls totalled 1310m2 of printing. This project utilised ~140T of ContourCrete®, which was being deposited layer-by-layer at an average rate of 1.3T per hour.

CONTOUR3D
SHAPING THE FUTURE

At Contour 3D, we are a passionate force of change, driven by years of collective expertise and boundless creativity. Our foundation is built on a relentless pursuit of excellence in engineering, design, fabrication, software, and material science. Each day, we rise with a burning ambition to revolutionise the construction industry and reshape the very fabric of how homes are built.

Contour3D are taking a groundbreaking step with Australia’s first 3D-printed duplex, marking a significant advancement in addressing Australia’s housing shortage.

Using 3D printing technology for this project, we aim to address housing affordability and shortages by aligning supply with demand. This innovative approach could potentially revolutionise the way we think about housing and provide a solution to the growing issue of housing scarcity. By leveraging the capabilities of 3D printing, we hope to make housing more accessible and affordable for all Australians.

OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH VERSICLAD

Versiclad Building Systems revolutionise construction by combining our innovative Versipanel Wall System with our range of structural insulated roof panels. This seamless integration provides a complete modular solution, ideal for constructing full homes, extensions, granny flats, and holiday cabins.

The entire wall system was installed by the single onsite building crew, which means less trades on site. Additionally, no cutting of panels on site was required – the panels were supplied to site factory prepared by Versiclad ready for immediate install without the need to cut or prep panels prior to installation.

Julian Brenchley, group architects

Located in Sydney, this pioneering structure exemplifies the potential of 3D concrete printing to transform the construction industry. The Contour3D project, undertaken by a collaboration with GROUP Architects, CPM Engineers, and ultra modern building material and technology firms, demonstrates how this cutting-edge technique can overcome traditional building challenges.

The building’s innovative design integrates advanced insulation and thermal performance features,  demonstrating the environmental benefits of this technology. As Australia faces increasing demand for sustainable housing, this first 3D-printed building stands as a testament to the future of architecture, where concrete printing could play a role in addressing both environmental and housing challenges.
